Resources and Stuff! 08/10/11

Hey everyone!
Long time no update right?
I wanted to share some of my favorite places to get the BEST resources for graphic designers.

Tuts Plus – This is a fabulous site covering just about every form of digital artistry complete with free stock, tutorials, and articles.

Design Follow – Design Follow has been my homepage for a long time. Stunning professional examples, tutorials, and endless stock; as well as some fantastic articles.

Creattica – I hate to say it but I haven’t done a huge amount of exploring on this site, but from what I can tell there are THOUSANDS of inspirational examples for every digital and print interface you could think of.

SXE – This is a free stock imagery site. Not quite as in depth as iStock, but they do have a very impressive collection of high quality stock.

Graffiti Creator – This is more of a “fun” site. A great little java program that allows you to create fully customizable and downloadable graffiti.

Graphic Design Junction – This site is a little annoying to sift through due to strategically placed ads that kind of interrupt the posts, but there area a ton of freebies. We likes freebies.

Kuler – Kuler is a web-based Adobe program that creates endless color schemes. It allows you to edit existing schemes, add to a favorites list, create your own scheme, and even download as an Adobe swatch.

Great experiences 04/27/11

I have to say I am falling more and more in love with the action sports world.
I never thought it’d be possible, but it is! I’ve had a few great experiences freelancing for Volcom and Billabong. I’m meeting some great people and participating in some really awesome project It’s fun to see what’s coming up in the industry!
I want to thank 24 Seven for setting me up with these great opportunities

“X Play Nation” Review 04/19/11

I came across “X Play Nation” through one of those highly obnoxious banner ads on Malakye.com. The banner read something to the effect that X-Play was the “official book behind action sports.” This definitely grabbed my attention since I’ve been trying to find some form of publication that incorporated more than ONE type of action sport. I knew there weren’t any magazines on the market so I took a click. It directed me to the Amazon page with a full review and sneak peak about how “X-Play Nation” was THE book to get if you have any interest in the business and development side of the AS industry.

Now, just as a side note…. ever since I was little, I have completely immersed myself into something I like. When I was 5, I decided I wanted to horseback ride. So my little resourceful self got a hold of EVERY type of horse book I could find. From Veterinary care to riding styles… I wanted to know it all. Well, almost 20 years later, this quality hasn’t ceased.

After reading the quotes and reviews from founding fathers of Action Sports companies raving at how this is the book everyone in the industry needs to read, I immediately ordered one.

I literally read this book with a highlighter… Gathering as many statistics, quotes, and ramblings that I found interesting or worth memorizing. I dont’ think I even studied this hard in high school. There is SO much insight into the foundation of the Action Sports world in this book. Everything from fun trivia about riders (Jeremy McGrath apparently started in BMX and then became the Supercross champ….who knew!) to hard facts about the heavy hitters, to the branding and advertising developments of growing companies.

This book is a MUST for ANYONE who is in the industry, trying to get in, or just has a general interest in the marketing and business of the AS industry. Five stars!!!

Sneak Preview 04/02/11

I’ve been working my ass off the last few weeks to really “beef up” my portfolio and really take the bull by the horns with getting into my beloved Action Sports industry.
I am working on some new campaigns that I’m pretty stoked on, but also concentrating on clean, highly technical ads.

Hey everyone! Happy Hump Day! woo!

So the search continues for work in the graphics world…. It’s all about networking and who you know as I’m discovering…but I will never give up!!!

Keep your eyes pealed… 01/28/11

Hey people!
I have a SERIOUS art day planned sometime this weekend so keep your eyes open for new work! Both with graphics as well as fine art. I have a HUGE list of art projects that I want to start to tackle…some of which I may be selling and/or offering custom designs I know my merch page is pretty barron at the moment, but Contact me to get orders on T-Shirts, Fine Art prints, skateboard decks, and custom work.

This is something I think I might take a stab at as well, this stuff is SO awesome! “Calligraffiti” is just what it sounds like; a mix between calligraphy and graffiti. It’s a new fine art movement out of Amsterdam created by graphic designer Niels Meulman. The work is absolutely brilliant!
